What he was trying to convey was that his life was full and rich and that being a JW did not inhibit him.
With the adverage JW spending 500+ hours per year on Watchtower sponsored activites I would beg to differ.
he sat next to me while i was having lunch.
he smalltalked and then asked, "sooo doya think you'll ever come back to the truth?
my response, with a laugh was "nope".. i then remarked that there are a lot of "good" people that are witnesses and then asked him, do you think you'd ever leave the organization?

He replied that he'd be a liar if he ever said that he hadn't thought about it but since there was nothing "better" that he could find yet, he'd stay where he was.
This argument has been told to them through the mags so many times they actually think it is good. All it is is a burning house argument. A person doesn't have to have a new house ready for him to move into if he sees that his is on fire. Groups like the JWs love this sort of reasoning because it is an excellent way to trap people into a narrow frame of mind.

enjoy!
.
i have a question.
the wt insists that its members shun those who don't believe anymore and also to avoid those who don't believe but were never associated with jw's.
then why did jesus spend half his life speaking to the pharisees and non-christian people he met on a daily basis?
Much of the Watchtowers reasoning for the practice of disfellowshipping comes from a basic ignorance of what first century christianity really was. Leolaia made a great post dealing with a number of key texts:

Don't get me wrong. I don't think that the Watchtower really cares what the history says. They like their policy because it helps them control the flock. The "Bible" has little to do with it.
.
is it possible to have both at the same time?.

Simply stated, conspiracy theories are typcially a secularized belief explaining the presence of evil in the world. While usually (but not allways) rejecting traditional religious beliefs built on mythologies, their own speculations about the evil in the world take on much of the same form (i.e. evil exists because there are wicked organizations, ancient bloodliens, closeness of apocolyptic ending to the world, ect.)
anyone who has read this book have any comments?.
i'm ordering it right now, coppola mentioned it briefly in his q&a in today's ny times magazine and it seems like a great read on religion.
I know very little about the book. One question I have is if the author distinguishes between mythology sets or does he merge all myths togeather I'm assuming (but could be wrong) that by "eternal return" the author is refering to eastern mythology (sometimes called the eternal mother) which focuses on repeating life cycles. On the other side of the spectrum lies a differant mythology type that stesses redemption through a heroic figure, sometimes called hero who slays the dragon. This type can be found throughout the Judeo-Christian religions as well as other ancient mesopotamian cultures to name a few.

Neither.
We are all part of an advanced cloning system.
i surely don't want to beat a dead horse but this one's still breathing.
the wts needs to be held responsible.
they have tax-free status in our u.s.a. -- a position that certainly should not / must not be extended to organizations which are guilty of fraud.
I like having it up. It just proves their Jackassery.
in the jw's teaching that there will not be endless punishment of the wicked, but that the unrighteous people will be annihilated and cease to exist.
.
what bible verses to they use to support this teachings?.
I just wanted to add that the dynamics of their belief in annhilationism comes from a preconceived belief in the nature of who they believe the creator to be.
Russell started with the proposition that it was impossible for an all loving God to eternally torment his creation. He then took this "intellectual impossibility" and used it as the lens by which he interpreted the Bible. If any passage of scripture contradicts the presupposition of an all loving God not being able to eternally punish people the passage is interpreted in a way that makes it possible. Spiritualizing passages becomes the most common technique (i.e. rich man and lazarus), but there are others.
